Physiotherapy, Hereford - neck

The waiting time is currently about 6 months!

By that time your symptoms may have become worse and it may even have progressed to a stage that requires more drastic action.

Even when you finally get your physiotherapy appointment, due to the long waiting lists it may end up being disappointing, as you may only have a few appointments before being discharged. The appointments will often only include generic exercise programs (without suitable progression) and minimal, if any hands on manual treatment. After working as a physiotherapist in the NHS for several years I know and understand how hard it is. There is a lot of pressure to discharge people quickly in order to get  through the waiting list and appointment times are rarely long enough for any suitable manual treatment to be provided.

If you'd rather get your musculoskeletal problem looked at more quickly, by a highly qualified physiotherapist here in Hereford, receive a more thorough assessment and treatment progra, involving both  manual therapy, as well as a progressive exercise program, then you have come to the right place.

Physiotherapyand other services are available to satisfy your needs.

REHABILITATION PROGRAMS

I can provide a range of physiotherapy rehabilitation programs to help you with whatever is required by using a wide range of techniques. Personalized treatment plans can be provided using to help reduce pain, increase strength, mobility, balance & stability and return you to your required functional or sporting needs.

RECOVERY FROM GENERAL INJURIES

I specialize in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders (MSKD's) including general injuries from day to day activities. Using my wealth of knowledge through specific training and continuing education as well as many years of  experience working in MSK clinics I have the expertise to treat your injury using either physiotherapy,  sports therapy or sports massageI will work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan using exercises and manual therapy to help you recover as quickly and safely as possible to get you back to your daily functioning requirements at home or at work.

RECOVERY FORM SPORTS INJURIES

Using the additional training gained from the  sports therapy and sports massage courses I can provide specialized treatments specifically for sports injuries (As well as being registered with the chartered society of physiotherapy, through post graduate training I am also registered with the Sports Therapy Organisation and Sports Massage Association. I can provide personalized rehabilitation programs using exercises and manual therapy to help you recover more quickly and get you back to your sporting activities at your required level, from amateur to professional.

INJURY PREVENTION

A well as helping you to recover from both general and sporting injuries I can use unique exercise programs and manual therapy treatments to help to prevent injuries. The risk of injuries may be increased due to several risk factors present within your general health and daily life, as well as dysfunctions within your musculoskeletal system (e.g. postural dysfunction, muscle imbalances, weakness, muscle tightness, reduced balance and stability , lifting technique etc).

You can be sure that after a thorough assessment, an  exercise program specific to your findings will be implemented (along with advice on any risk factors).  Improving your strength, endurance and flexibility  as well as your balance and stability, will help improve any muscle imbalances and remove any  compensatory movement patterns that may have possibly developed.

Increasing the strength and stability around the joints will help reduce any instability within the joints and reduce the risk of  loss of balance or control within the joint and therefore reduce the risk of an injury.

IMPROVE SPORTS PERFORMANCE

Whether you are a professional or amateur athlete, or just looking to improve your athletic performance here in Hereford, physiotherapy, sports therapy and sports massage can help you improve. As well as rehabilitating from injuries the manual techniques and exercise programs can be used to improve any  muscle imbalances or compensatory movement patterns that may have developed as well as improving any postural dysfunctions.

If any of these changes are present they are likely to be hampering your performance, as your muscles will not be functioning at peak efficiency. I offer individualized assessment and treatment plans to help reduce these musculoskeletal dysfunctions to help you achieve your sporting goals and reach your full potential.

ELDERLY CARE

Techniques from physiotherapy and sports massage can also be beneficial for older people. I can develop personalized exercise programs that will help improve your strength and flexibility, reduce pain and improve balance and proprioception.

The strength and balance exercises provided will help improve mobility, reduce the risk of falls and improve overall health.

PATIENT EDUCATION AND SELF MANAGEMENT ADVICE

I believe that patient education is a very important part of the recovery process. There are some therapists out there who may just treat symptoms from week to week without targeting the cause of the symptoms and without providing the patient with any self management techniques. This can prolong recovery and possibly increase the risk of recurrent problems. That's why I provide patients with the knowledge and resources they need to take an active role in their own health and well-being. This means that in between the appointments you can complement the sessions with techniques to do yourself at home (as well as doing the exercises). After the final treatment session you will then be provided with self management techniques and advice to continue with to help reduce the risk of recurrent problems.

The manual therapy techniques employed by myself along with a progressive exercise program can help alleviate all these symptoms as you recover, no matter the cause. Poor posture and muscle imbalance can lead to injuries and more severe pain if not corrected early enough.

The manual techniques and exercise provided through physiotherapy can be used to help correct these problems.

It is important to treat any postural abnormality as soon as possible. If not corrected it causes a dysfunction in movement patterns that could result in pain, weakness, decreased mobility and possibly a more serious injury.

Whether you are young or old, active or inactive, the techniques provided wihin physiotherapy here at Hererford can be of benefit to you.

General exercise and physiotherapy is always very useful for the older generation, especially when degenerative changes associated with arthritis occur.

As you get older, if you are more active and stronger, the joints will be more stable and will have less stress passing through them. This will then lower the risk of developing the age related dysfunctions commonly seen.

Even if you have early stages of arthritis, or have had it for many years, physiotherapy and massage can help improve the health of the joints and can possibly help to reduce pain and instability.
